The Artists

Alison Wonderland

I’ve had the opportunity to Alison several different times, at several different venue settings. This time was by far the best experience seeing her. Unfortunately, I missed the beginning 15 minutes of her set due to a ticket malfunction (aka: my ticket got lost @ will call), but let me say the remaining almost hour that she played was amazing. She played fan and personal favorites throughout the entire show, including ‘Church’ and ‘Easy’ from her most recent album ‘Awake’.

The visuals were also out of this world. The colors and movements were spectacular, and the visuals being in sync with her body motions were also A-W-E-S-O-M-E. The highlight for me was getting to see her play her cello live. She opened with almost a soft, acoustic version of ‘Awake’, and then segwayed into her cello piece. It’s soft instrumental tone behind Alison’s voice singing awake was magical- it literally gave me chills. If you haven’t had the opportunity to see her, you are absolutely missing out.

Dillon Francis

This was my first opportunity getting to see this house music legend, and let me say it was not a disappointment. Since I got the opportunity to work as a member of the Press, I got the chance to film the first 15 minutes of the show IN FRONT of the rail! It was everything. He closed out the night before their B2B at the end and started it all up with Bohemian Rhapsody. He got the entire crowd singing along- sharing the good vibes with one another. Francis brought down the house with some amazing heavy vibes, and even throwing in his signature style, Moombahton. He lit up the venue with beautiful graphics- some of them funny and others taking me into a tropical paradise. At one point in the show, there were even Geralds being thrown into the crowd from the stage! At one point my friend looked at me and said ‘He’s like the excision of house music’.

Alison Wonderland B2B Dillon Francis

Although I would classify these artists’ ‘sound’ as very different, their B2B was absolutely fantastic. Not only did they have some amazingly deep bass, but they also had some really fun transitions. Dillon and Alison’s sounds were very complimentary- her heavy bass really complementing his deep house and energetic beats. Aside from obviously how great they sounded together, the artists very clearly had great energy on stage. Throughout the entire show they were smiling and growing off of each others energy. The Venue

Alison and Dillon closed out the tour at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, PA. It wasn’t my first time attending this particular venue, but it was definitely my best experience to date. The overall area is generally decent– it is known for having a fair amount of homeless people in the summer. Parking is also relatively easy depending on what you’re looking for- there’s a large parking garage (location here) across from the venue, and then tons of parking along the street. Disclaimer: This is a large bar strip, so if you’re trying to get parking on the street, you need to arrive early. Inside the venue, I was relatively pleased! Security was on the peripherals of the show and seemed relatively lax about things- however, you do have to go through a metal detector before entering the venue (VIP OR GA). The only time I saw security intervention was to tell girls to quit riding shoulders, so I would consider that a win. The airflow I thought wasn’t bad- although I didn’t spend the entire time in the crowd, I didn’t find myself absolutely dying at any point.

Overall, the show was everything I hoped it would be and then some. Both artists played some amazing songs and really were just beyond fun to watch. Alison’s cello was probably the highlight of my night, but Francis came in and really blew me away with his overall performance (and flying Geralds (see here)). The venue did a great job containing the crowd and its airflow was pretty decent. If you haven’t had the chance to see Alison or Dillon live, make sure you see if they’re coming somewhere close to you! (Check 2019 tour and festival lists here).

For this week’s Feature Friday I’m talking about the highlight anticipated new song created by Alison Wonderland x Dillon Francis. This duo has been teasing their fans since EDCLV 2018 after playing their new collab live. Since then the two have announced that they’re not only collabing together, but they’re touring together too in 2019! You can thank Croatia going to the World Cup for bringing these guys together.

The Song: ‘Lost My Mind’

Dropping today, the song has been highly anticipated! The song already has 24k views on Youtube, boasting similar numbers on Spotify. It channels Wonderlands deep bass that she’s known for. The track also features vocals done by Wonderland. Although the song isn’t necessarily the ‘banger’ that I was anticipating, it channels my favorite parts of both artists. The song really flows from one artist to the other.

About Alison Wonderland

Wonderland (alias: Alex Sholler) is an Aussie DJ that’s skyrocketed in the EDM world over the past couple of years. She’s headlined major festival including Tomorrowland, Lollapalooza, and EDCLV. As well as has amassed a following of loyal, EDM fans known as ‘Wanderers’. In 2018, the Aussie DJ took to her tour bus for the highly anticipated Awake Tour after the release of her album, Awake. Francis is an iconic DJ that’s not only known for creating super fun, jump and down music. His piñata Gerald is also an iconic figure. This American born DJ has created his own genre (Moombahton), and has had several Grammy-nominated albums. Like Wonderland, Dillon Francis has headlined huge festivals all over the world including TomorrowWorld, Electric Zoo and Ultra. He’s also had the chance to work with big-name artists like Skrillex, Bro Safari and NGHTMRE.

Outside of his impressive resume of festivals and artists he’s attended/collaborated with, he’s developed a huge social media presence to boot. With 2.1M followers on Instagram, Dillon and his pet piñata Gerald (51.4k followers), boast a colorful feed full of selfies, captured show moments, funny bloopers and more.
